Hidden Bay Area Find: Farmer John’s Pumpkin Patch

Farmer John’s Pumpkin Patch has been on my bucket list for years! Only a 45 min drive (without traffic) from the Bay Area and you arrive in Half Moon Bay; where the weather is 20 degrees colder and perfect for all your cozy sweaters.

I wanted to finally take our dog Thumper to his first pumpkin patch, but in the South Bay Area there were no pumpkin patches that were dog friendly except for Farmer John’s in Half Moon Bay. My biggest advice is to get here right as they open on the weekends or even better, visit on the weekdays, less people and less traffic as well.

About Farmer John’s Pumpkin Patch

Farmer John’s Pumpkin Patch as been around for over 25 years. It started as a farm that grew produce and flowers. Farmer John started growing pumpkins so that children and families could see how the pumpkins are grown. If you get lucky you will probably see Farmer John walking around the pumpkin patch.

Upon arrival I felt that Farmer John’s Pumpkin Patch was taking all the necessary precautions for COVID-19. Hand sanitizers, a hand wash station as you walked in and making sure everyone was wearing a mask. I could also see that there were sanitizing each wagon as soon as there were returned.

Thumper at his first pumpkin patch!

Tips for your first time visiting

Here are some helpful tips if you plan on visiting in the fall season

  1. Arrive at opening
The best time to get there is right when they open for a few reasons. For photos you are guaranteed to have no one photobomb your photos. Also less people ideal for social distancing, it made me feel safer knowing there was less people.
  2. Bring cash
Farmer John’s does accept CC’s but it is always best to carry cash just like at the farmers market.
  3. If you bring your dog, please pick up after them
I love that farmer John’s is dog friendly but we must also do our part and clean up after our furry pets.
  4. Bring a light sweater and a coat.
The weather in Half Moon Bay is usually chiller and is foggy 90% of the time. In October though it gets really warm so come prepared with some light weight clothes and a good sturdy jacket or coat.

What to Wear

I wanted to bring in a vintage flare to my fall wardrobe. Unique Vintage is one on my go-to brand for modern vintage clothing. Check out more of my Halloween Vintage Inspired Outfits here.  Some of my go to fall staples are the following:

  1. Over the knee boots
  2. Chunky Sweaters
  3. Fun graphic crop tops with high-waisted jeans
  4. Plaid pattern clothing
  5. A long trenchcoat
  6. A fall hat burgundy or burn orange
